Whether it’s a crime-fighting costumed heroine or a space adventure, there’s a lot of thought put into the sequential art that drives stories told in comics. Join some of the industry’s best artists—Adam Warren (Empowered), Patric Reynolds (Joe Golem), Daniel Warren Johnson (Alabaster, Space-Mullet!), Faith Erin Hicks (Buffy: The High School Years), and Kel McDonald (Misfits of Avalon)—as they discuss turning an idea into a full-fledged story and how they continue to keep their writing fresh.

Dark Horse Comics and Twentieth Century Fox: A Relationship Spanning Universes
12:15 p.m.–1:15 p.m. T305
Dark Horse achieved one of its earliest successes with the 1988 publication of Aliens, followed that with Predator (1989) and Aliens vs. Predator (1990), won over fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with comics starting in 1998, and is now developing comics for the beautiful blue world of James Cameron’s Avatar. Join Joshua Izzo (Director of Licensing, Twentieth Century Fox), Randy Stradley (Vice President of Publishing, Dark Horse Comics), Brian Thies (Predator: Life and Death), Faith Erin Hicks (Buffy: The High School Years), and others involved in creating the worlds of the Xenoverse, the Whedonverse, and the Pandoran biosphere.
Painting in Comics: Behind the Scenes with Top Artists

Camilla d’Errico (Tanpopo, Pop Manga, Helmetgirls), Jim Mahfood, a.k.a. Food One (Grrl Scouts, Stupid Comics, Clerks), Ben Templesmith (Gotham by Midnight, Fell, 30 Days of Night), and Bobby Chiu (Imaginism Studios) have broken new ground by using painting to create original artwork for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, and creator-owned comics.
