February 13, 2015 09:00 AM Eastern Standard Time

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--(NASDAQ: AMZN)—Amazon today announced all ten episodes of its first hour-long drama series Bosch are now available exclusively on Prime Instant Video in the US, UK and Germany. Based on Michael Connelly’s internationally best-selling Harry Bosch book series with nearly 50 million copies sold, Bosch stars Titus Welliver (Lost, The Good Wife) as Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector (The Wire) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt. Grace Billets, Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, and Annie Wersching (24, Extant) as Julia Brasher, with Sarah Clarke (24) as Eleanor Wish and Jason Gedrick (Luck) as Raynard Waits.

The series follows the relentless LAPD homicide detective as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood. Guest stars on Bosch include Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead) as Dr. Guyot and Troy Evans (ER) as Detective Johnson, and was developed for television by Eric Overmyer (Treme, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Streets) and Executive Produced by Overmyer, Connelly, and Henrik Bastin (The Killing, Burn Notice).

“It’s finally time to see Harry Bosch on screen”

Prime members can now watch all ten episodes of Bosch as often as they would like from the Amazon Instant Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/boschtv, at no additional cost to their membership. Customers who are not already a Prime member can sign up for a free trial at www.amazon.com/prime.

Primarily based on elements from Connelly’s books City of Bones (2002), The Concrete Blonde (1994) and Echo Park (2006), Harry Bosch’s investigation takes on a life and death urgency when a killer who has confessed to a boy’s murder escapes custody and begins a murderous rampage across Los Angeles. Bosch and the killer are locked in a cat and mouse game, with the killer taunting Bosch as the investigation turns deeply personal. The case unearths Bosch’s buried past as well as entangling his ex-wife and 14-year-old daughter. The season takes the viewer through back streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles rarely seen on-screen. There have been 19 Harry Bosch novels published since 1992, including 2014’s number-one bestseller The Burning Room.

“We’re delighted to debut the first television adaptation of Michael Connelly’s classic works,” said Roy Price, Vice President, Amazon Studios. “We hope customers enjoy this extraordinary glimpse around Los Angeles with legendary LAPD detective Harry Bosch.”

“It’s finally time to see Harry Bosch on screen,” said Michael Connelly. “I am very excited because I think we’ve got something here in Titus Welliver and this production that will be just what cop show fans and Harry Bosch fans are looking for; a smart and convincing story about a detective who may be haunted but is also undaunted. I have waited about 20 years for this and it was worth the wait to see my books taken to the screen in this no holds barred way."

“The response to Bosch has already been incredible,“ added Henrik Pabst, Managing Director at Red Arrow International. “With its LA-noir look and exceptional performances and cinematography, Bosch is shaping up to be the event crime series of the year."

Other guest stars in Bosch include Veronica Cartwright (Resurrection) as Irene Saxon, Abraham Benrubi (The Bridge) as Rodney Belk, Mark Derwin (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) as Captain Harvey Pounds, Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers) as Honey Chandler, and Alan Rosenberg (The Guardian) as Dr. Golliher. The series is co-Executive Produced by Pieter Jan Brugge (Heat, The Pelican Brief) and Produced by Pat McKee (Longmire) and Rachel Rusch (Bill Maher: The Decider). Episodes were directed by Jim McKay, Kevin Dowling, Ernest Dickerson, Roxann Dawson, Matt Earl Beesley, Alex Zakrzewski and Thomas Carter. Bosch is produced by Fabrik Entertainment in association with Red Arrow International for Amazon Studios.

Here is what the critics are saying:

“Welliver, all confident minimalism, quietly commands your attention with his naturally fierce charisma.” – Jeff Jensen, Entertainment Weekly

“Titus Welliver sensationally nails Harry’s gruff demeanor.” – Matt Roush, TV Guide

“So why is it so darn fun to watch? Because Welliver and other cast members make it credible, first of all, and because of the show’s unlikely nostalgic sensibility: It feels like a detective movie or TV show from another era.” – David Wiegand, San Francisco Chronicle

VIZ Media Announces Film Development on "The Street of Fruiting Bodies"

VIZ PRODUCTIONS DEVELOPING FEATURE FILM BASED ON AUTHOR SAYURI UEDA’S SHORT STORY THE STREET OF FRUITING BODIES

BATMAN Screenwriter Sam Hamm To Develop Script About An Infestation Of Deadly Hallucinogenic Spores

VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest distributor and licensor of manga and anime in North America, has announced that its Los Angeles-based film development division, VIZ Productions, is developing the haunting short story, “The Street of Fruiting Bodies,” by famed Japanese author Sayuri Ueda into a feature film, and has retained Batman screenwriter Sam Hamm to write the adaptation.

“The Street of Fruiting Bodies” depicts the sudden spread of a mysterious and lethal species of hallucinogenic mushroom. The infestation is deadly, but it also offers visions of deceased loved ones to the infected, hinting at the reality of an afterlife, or at least a new kind of existence that is beyond human comprehension. Ueda’s story appeared in the anthology, PHANTASM JAPAN, which collected works by several bestselling authors from both the United States and Japan and was published in English in 2014 by VIZ Media’s Haikasoru literary imprint. More information on the book is available at: http://www.haikasoru.com/phantasm-japan.

Jason Hoffs, Head of Production at VIZ Productions, says the story is well suited for feature film adaptation. “Sayuri Ueda turns the ‘killer virus’ concept on its head with an agent that strikes at our emotions rather than our bodies. We hope to marry the pace of a riveting popcorn movie with a compelling meditation on life-after-death, love and memory, and God."

Screenwriter Sam Hamm is best known for his script for the 1989 Tim Burton film, Batman, and also adapted short fiction for Showtime’s "Masters of Horror" series. He says of the new project, “Ueda creates a world in which the most profound human emotions – love, grief, longing, and hope – can lead to one's salvation or one's undoing, and the true horror is that it may be impossible to tell the difference. ‘The Street of Fruiting Bodies’ is not only disturbing, it is moving.”

VIZ Productions coordinates the licensing of Japanese entertainment media (manga, books and film) to North American-based film studios. The company’s most recent project was 2014’s sci-fi action feature, Edge of Tomorrow, which was co-produced by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures and starred Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. The film was based on the novel, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and available in English from VIZ Media’s Haikasoru imprint.  VIZ Productions is also currently developing a feature film adaptation of the hit manga property DEATH NOTE.
