STATEMENT FROM ACADEMY PRESIDENT CHERYL BOONE ISAACS
I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful work of this year’s nominees. While we celebrate their extraordinary achievements, I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion. This is a difficult but important conversation, and it’s time for big changes. The Academy is taking dramatic steps to alter the makeup of our membership. In the coming days and weeks we will conduct a review of our membership recruitment in order to bring about much-needed diversity in our 2016 class and beyond.
As many of you know, we have implemented changes to diversify our membership in the last four years. But the change is not coming as fast as we would like. We need to do more, and better and more quickly.
This isn’t unprecedented for the Academy. In the ‘60s and ‘70s it was about recruiting younger members to stay vital and relevant. In 2016, the mandate is inclusion in all of its facets: gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. We recognize the very real concerns of our community, and I so appreciate all of you who have reached out to me in our effort to move forward together.

Image Comics Announces Finale for Debut Story Arc of "Black Magick"
BLACK MAGICK OFFERS A BEWITCHING ARC FINALE
New York Times bestselling and Eisner Award-winning writer Greg Rucka (LAZARUS, Stumptown, Gotham Central) and superstar artist Nicola Scott (Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Earth 2) will conclude the first story arc in their ongoing gothic noir series BLACK MAGICK this February.
Previously in BLACK MAGICK, Detective Rowan Black found herself tangled up in a decidedly occult investigation—despite her efforts to keep her work and private lives separate—that quickly became quite personal.
In BLACK MAGICK #5, the first chapter comes to a conclusion, and it’s a trial by divination.
“This issue concludes the first half of the first ‘act’—and it upends the table,” said Rucka. “We start to see more of what not only what Rowan can do, but what Alex is capable of, as well; but more crucially, we get the first real reveal of what it is they’re up against. And it isn’t pretty. Literally and figuratively.”
“Rowan, Alex, pretty much everyone, has way more to fear than they thought,” said Scott. “Something's creeping through the cracks and the manipulation has just started.”
BLACK MAGICK #5 Cover A by Nicola Scott (Diamond code: DEC150569) hits stores Wednesday, February 24th. BLACK MAGICK #5 Cover B by Stephanie Hans (Diamond code: DEC150570) will also be available Wednesday, February 24th, 2016. Final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, February 1st, 2016.

Image Comics Announces "Black Road" from Brian Wood and Gary Brown
BLACK ROAD LEADS READERS DOWN A DARK PATH
An all-new series from Brian Wood and Garry Brown
Bestselling writer Brian Wood (STARVE, Northlanders) and artists Gary Brown (The Massive, Catwoman) and Dave McCaig (Batman, American Vampire) team up for the all-new, ongoing Viking tale in BLACK ROAD, which was first announced during last year’s Image Expo and will be launching from Image Comics this April.
In BLACK ROAD #1, readers meet Magnus the Black—neither clean nor sober, neither Christian nor Pagan—but a man true to his word. When a ranking official under his care is brutally murdered, he’s prepared to hunt the killers to the frozen tip of Norway, religious war be damned.
“With Northlanders I went strictly historical,” said Wood. “But here we’re creating this almost heightened take on the Viking times, where Christian conversion was more like a military occupation, with churches dotting the landscape like green zones and there’s this highway of death heading forever northwards…. this is the Black Road. Anything, and everything, can happen on the cold road north.”
Wood first described Magnus The Black at Image Expo, calling him “a creaky fellow who suffers the boot of daily life but shows his steel where and when it counts.” But Wood later added onto the character’s description: “[He’s] a skeptic of the highest sort but operating with a very strong personal moral code. He’s suffered tremendously in his life, but keeps moving forward, keeps pushing on like an inexorable force of nature.”
“It's been a thrill to work on the book,” said Brown. “Drawing the environments and characters has been really rewarding. Plus working with Brian on a grim Viking book has been excellent. I'm excited for it to hit the stands.”
BLACK ROAD #1 (Diamond Code FEB160460) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, March 21st, 2016.
