Music's Biggest Night® — Hosted by LL Cool J — Airs Live on CBS, Feb. 15, 2016

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The GRAMMY®-nominated musical "Hamilton" ushers Broadway back to the GRAMMY Awards® stage after a more than five-year hiatus. GRAMMY winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and his extraordinary cast will perform a number from the acclaimed musical on the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards®, directly from the legendary Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York, marking one of only four times that the GRAMMY telecast has featured a performance live via satellite. Watch a video of the "Hamilton" cast announcing their upcoming GRAMMY performance.

“The music community's response to our cast album has been overwhelming, and we're honored to be a part of such a special night. To perform from our home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre is a dream come true.”

Previously announced performers include Adele, James Bay, Andra Day, Ellie Goulding, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, and The Weeknd. Entertainment icon and two-time GRAMMY winner LL COOL J is set to host Music's Biggest Night® for the fifth consecutive year. Taking place at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network, Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Additional performers will be announced shortly.

The "Hamilton" performance will be the eighth time in history that musical theater has been featured on the GRAMMY Awards. Previous Broadway productions featured on the telecast include "Godspell" (1972); "The Magic Show" (1975); "Sophisticated Ladies" (1982); "La Cage Aux Folles" (1984); "Will Rogers Follies" (1992); "Riverdance" and "Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk" (1997); and, most recently, "American Idiot" (2010).

"The 'Hamilton' cast and crew are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this year's GRAMMY Awards," said Miranda, "Hamilton" creator, writer, and lead performer. "The music community's response to our cast album has been overwhelming, and we're honored to be a part of such a special night. To perform from our home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre is a dream come true."

Catch an exclusive interview with Miranda as he talks about his musical influences, the inspiration behind "Hamilton," and how he hopes the show will expose hip-hop and musical theater to new audiences.

The "Hamilton" segment also marks the fourth time that a performance will be broadcast live via satellite on the GRAMMY Awards. The last time the awards telecast included a performance from another location was when Amy Winehouse performed "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab" in London during the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2008, the same year Winehouse earned her five GRAMMYs®.

"Melding contemporary hip-hop into a musical set in the year 1776, 'Hamilton' reimagines the traditional musical in a unique and extraordinary way that has brought Broadway — and our nation's history — to new audiences," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "With the GRAMMY Awards on a Monday this year, we have a wonderful opportunity to highlight this important musical art form on an even bigger stage for our millions of viewers worldwide to experience."

Current nominees for Best Musical Theater Album from the Original Broadway Cast recording of "Hamilton" include: principal soloists Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo; producers Alex Lacamoire, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bill Sherman, Ahmir Thompson, and Tarik Trotter; and composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda, Lacamoire, and Sherman are previous winners in this category for "In The Heights" (2008).

The 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich is executive producer, Louis J. Horvitz is director, and David Wild and Ehrlich are the writers.

Review: "Just One of the Guys" Not Just Another Teen Movie

TRASH IN MY EYE No. 3 (of 2016) by Leroy Douresseaux

[A version of this review originally appeared on Patreon.]

Just One of the Guys (1985)
Running time:  90 minutes (1 hour, 30 minutes)
MPAA – PG-13
DIRECTOR:  Lisa Gottlieb
WRITERS:  Dennis Feldman and Jeff Franklin; from a story by Dennis Feldman
PRODUCER:  Andrew Fogelson
CINEMATOGRAPHER:  John McPherson (D.o.P.)
EDITOR:  Tony Lombardo
COMPOSER:  Tom Scott

COMEDY/ROMANCE

Starring:  Joyce Hyser, Clayton Rohner, Billy Jayne, Toni Hudson, William Zabka, Leigh McCloskey, Sherilyn Fenn, Deborah Goodrich, Ayre Gross, Robert Fieldsteel, Stuart Charno, John Apicella, Kenneth Tigar, Richard Blake, and Tony Brock and Jay Davis

Just One of the Guys is a 1985 comedy and high school romance from director Lisa Gottlieb and writers Dennis Feldman and Jeff Franklin.  The film focuses on a popular and attractive high school student who disguises herself as a teen boy in order to win a high school journalism contest.

Just One of the Guys introduces high school student, Terry Griffith (Joyce Hyser), of Phoenix, Arizona.  She has it all:  the looks, the popularity, and a college boyfriend who is quite the hunk.  Terry is also an aspiring teenage journalist, but her male teachers at Edwina Pearl High School don't take her newspaper articles seriously, mostly because she is a girl.  In fact, her journalism teacher, Mr. Raymaker (Kenneth Tigar), has chosen articles written by two male students to be entered in a contest that will land one student a summer internship at the Sun-Tribune.

So Terry comes up with an idea that will help her write an article that will earn her respect and hopefully win that summer internship.  With the help of her horny, little brother, Buddy (Billy Jacoby), and her lovelorn best friend, Denise (Toni Hudson), Terry disguises herself as a teen boy and enrolls in rival Sturgis-Wilder High School.  As a student at this new high school, Terry is sure that she can write an article about high school boys as secretly observed by a girl undercover as a boy.  Her mission goes awry when she meets handsome nerd, Rick Morehouse (Clayton Rohner).  Rick becomes her pet project, as she tries to give him a makeover and get him a date to the prom.  But Terry starts to fall in love with Rick.

I pretty much ignored 1980s teen movies that revolve around high school romance, and I had never even heard of Just One of the Guys.  However, a few weeks ago, I found an article on the Yahoo Movies website (https://www.yahoo.com/movies/are-those-what-i-think-they-are-a-revealing-175211213.html) about the 1985 film.  It turns out that 2015 is the 30th anniversary of the film's initial release (specifically April 26, 1985).  Apparently, Just One of the Guys is fondly remembered and has fanbase and something of a cult-following.  In fact, the magazine Entertainment Weekly once included Just One of the Guys in its listing of the “50 Best High School Movies” (at #48).

After reading a few paragraphs of the Yahoo article, I decided to rent Just One of the Guys from Netflix.  I enjoyed the film so much that it once again reminded me that Netflix is essential to my life as a movie-lover.  I won't call it a great movie, but Just One of The Guys is quite good and shouldn't be lost to history.

Just One of the Guys is a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedy, Twelfth Night, which also inspired the 2006 high school comedy, She's the Man.  You don't need to have seen Shakespeare's play in order to enjoy this film.  All you need is the ability to sympathize with Terry Griffith and to see things from her point of view.  As Terry, Joyce Hyser gives a natural performance that sells the absurdity of her role and this movie's conceit.  I found myself willingly suspending disbelief because Hyser made me believe in Terry, her motivations, her plan, and her character.  In the way that Dustin Hoffman made Tootsie worthy of the audience suspension of disbelief, Hyser makes us want to latch onto Terry and buy into the entire act.

I can see why Just One of the Guys has a devoted following after three decades, and is apparently still winning new fans.  It is not a sparkling high school idyll, cool and slick, like those 1980s John Hughes films.  The earthy Just One of the Guys mines comedy gold in the minefield of high school society and in the lives of high school age young people.  It does not romanticize high school, not when it can love the high school years while simultaneously skewering it.  No high school movie list is complete without the surprising Just One of the Guys.

Other top films with multiple nominations include “Let the Church Say Amen” (BET), “Show Me a Hero” (HBO), and “Whitney” (Lifetime).

“There were a rich and diverse pattern of stories that captivated audiences this year in the movies,” says Black Reel Awards founder and President Tim Gordon. “The top two nominated films are a perfect example of familiar stories that are executed extremely well and were also box-office hits. It was also refreshing to see a mix of familiar seasoned talent and a crop of new, rising future stars.”

“The Black Reel Awards” are bestowed annually by FAAAF to honor African-American film achievement in feature, independent and television film. The Black Reel Awards voting membership consists of 80 national film critics, independent filmmakers and music professionals who comprise the four voting branches, film, independent, television and music. Image Comics Announces New Series, "Circuit-Breaker"

CIRCUIT-BREAKER IS AN ELECTRIC READ

An all-new series about one girl robot who must save humanity

Bestselling writer Kevin McCarthy and artist Kyle Baker (Plastic Man) team up for an all-new series, CIRCUIT-BREAKER, launching from Image Comics this March.

CIRCUIT-BREAKER #1 is set in the aftermath of World War IV, where the heroic robots that saved Japan during war are outlawed. Now they’re turning against mankind, waging a campaign of terror across the last city on Earth.

“If Circuit-Breaker isn’t the best Shakespearean-Sentai, shōjo-shōnen superhero, soap-opera satire on the market, it’s at least in the alliteration. I mean, the conversation,” said McCarthy.

Meanwhile the vengeful robots’ original creator builds one more soldier—disguised as his teenaged granddaughter—and tasks her with dismantling the marauding mechanical militia. But as she begins to question her programming, will she be the last hope for humanity, or the final nail in our coffin?

McCarthy went on to describe the creative process of working with Baker. “The real hero here is my fellow Circuit-maker, Kyle Baker. There’s a lot going on in this book, and he took every one of my crazy ideas and obscure references and brought them to (artificial) life. I’m excited for everyone to see this book.”

McCarthy added: “Readers can expect our story to take a lot of left turns. So many in fact, that we made a complete... circuit? (Sorry.)”

CIRCUIT-BREAKER #1 (Diamond Code JAN160521) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, February 22, 2016.
