Starz Renews Hit Series “Outlander” with “Book Three” and “Book Four” Commitment
Starz Greenlights Two More Books of “Outlander” Based on Diana Gabaldon’s International Bestselling Novels Voyager and Drums of Autumn
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht announced the network has ordered “Book Three” and “Book Four” for the Golden Globe®-nominated STARZ Original series “Outlander,” the critically-acclaimed original series executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international bestselling books. Once again partnering with Sony Pictures Television, this is the first multi-book pickup for “Outlander,” assuring the series will run for several more years. The highly-anticipated second installment of the series premiered on STARZ in April 2016.
“Starz has been an incredible partner and has truly helped shape this into one of the most iconic premiere series on the air today.”
“Book Three” will be based on the third of the eight books in the Outlander series, entitled Voyager, followed by “Book Four” based on the fourth book in the series, Drums of Autumn.
CEO of Starz Chris Albrecht said, “’Outlander’ is like nothing seen before on television. From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans. On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore. There are no better storytellers for ‘Outlander’ than this team, both in front and behind the camera.”
“The world of Jamie and Claire is expansive and emotionally complex. The audience has rewarded 'Outlander' with their praise and loyalty, and we know we will deliver the best seasons yet in the years ahead,” said Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg , Presidents, U.S. Programming and Production, Sony Pictures Television. “Starz has been an incredible partner and has truly helped shape this into one of the most iconic premiere series on the air today.”
“Outlander” received three 2016 Golden Globe® nominations, including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actor. Fans recently named “Outlander” the “Most Bingeworthy Show of 2016” at the Critics’ Choice Awards®, as well as Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show and Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress for Caitriona Balfe at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards®. The series also received a Costume Designers Guild Awards® (CDGA) nomination this year.
The first 16-episode run of “Outlander,” filmed on location in Scotland, debuted in August 2014 with the season averaging 5 million multiplatform viewers per episode and regularly ranking in the top 10 weekly cable programs among women throughout the season. “Outlander” ranks in the Top 5 Daily Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings every week.
The “Outlander” second season premiere episode more than doubled viewing as compared to the “Outlander” first season premiere episode, setting a new STARZ record for an original series/season premiere (on a Live +SD, Live +3, and Live +7 basis). Through seven episodes in season 2, the series has also been a top two rated show across all of cable among women 18+ (Nielsen Live +3 F18+ ratings). About “Outlander”
The "Outlander" series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945, who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Upon her arrival, she is thrown into an unknown world where her freedom and her life, are threatened. But when she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited. Now, Claire's heart is torn between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
The second installment of “Outlander” begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising, and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.
Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) developed the series adaptation for “Outlander.”
Diana Gabaldon’s eight-book series has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide and all eight books in the series have graced the New York Times best-sellers list. The “Outlander” series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one grandiose tale.
“Outlander” is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company, and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Starz retains all domestic multiplatform pay TV rights to the original series.

Amazon Prime Offers Exclusive Lineup of Summer James
Amazon Releases "Songs of Summer"—A Collection of Original Recordings Exclusively Streaming on Prime Music
Artists including Passenger, Matt Nathanson, Brandi Carlile, Kate Voegele, Sublime with Rome, The Strumbellas, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Ryan Bingham, The Mountain Goats and more are featured on Songs of Summer singing newly-written summer songs or new renditions of popular summer songs
Prime members can listen to the entire collection at no additional cost to their membership on compatible devices that support Amazon Music, including Amazon Echo, Fire devices, iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Sonos Players, the Web and more—songs can also be downloaded for offline listening on mobile devices
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--(NASDAQ: AMZN)—Amazon today announced the release of Songs of Summer, a collection of more than 30 original recordings available exclusively for streaming on Prime Music and purchase on Amazon in the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan. New renditions of popular summer songs include Brandi Carlile singing her version of The Beach Boys classic “God Only Knows,” Beats Antique covering the famed song “Cruel Summer” originally from Bananarama, and Passenger putting his spin on Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay.” Newly-written songs can be heard from artists like Baio of Vampire Weekend, Kate Voegele, Sublime with Rome, and more.
“Prime members have loved listening to the original music we’ve released, from Amazon Acoustics to Indie for the Holidays, and we’re thrilled to continue to offer new, interesting music and more ways to discover great artists with today’s debut of Songs of Summer”
“Prime members have loved listening to the original music we’ve released, from Amazon Acoustics to Indie for the Holidays, and we’re thrilled to continue to offer new, interesting music and more ways to discover great artists with today’s debut of Songs of Summer,” stated Steve Boom, VP of Digital Music for Amazon. “It is an eclectic mix of songs from different eras and genres, perfect for summertime listening, and we can’t wait for customers and Prime members to enjoy.”
“The idea for ‘Summer Dream’ was to write a song about summer, without directly referring to it. When I was a kid, summer seemed to last forever; it felt almost endless, and that’s where the chorus came from—this feeling of summer endlessly meandering along while the verses of the song are all images associated with that feeling: stones in a creek, music in the sunshine, road trips, a lazy dream,” stated Zach Gill of ALO. “Amazon gave us the creative freedom to make this song something really special for listeners—a summer dream, warm, wistful and winding with music.”
“‘God Only Knows’ is quite possibly the best song ever written. The Beach Boys will always sound like summer to me, no matter what time of year it is. Mike McCready’s guitar playing really brings out the sun for me,” stated Brandi Carlile.
“Recording a summer song for Amazon gave us the opportunity to think outside the box. We have an affinity for chill 70’s music and Seals & Crofts’ ‘Summer Breeze’ came to mind—we wanted to fit what we liked about the song into a more mysterious and haunting landscape, so we replaced a lot of the soft-rock instrumentation with baritone guitars and washed out tremolo, plus we threw a trumpet in for good measure,” stated Escondido. “We’re grateful to Amazon for having us be a part of the Songs of Summer playlist and hope everyone enjoys listening.”
“We are so excited to work with Amazon for an exclusive release of our new song ‘Secrets’– we’ve been wanting to share it with you all,” stated Rome. “We hope you enjoy!”
Throughout the summer, Amazon will also debut official and live performance videos with featured artists on Songs of Summer like Oh Pep!, Kate Voegele, Escondido, Fort Frances, and more. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" Has a Soundtrack
PARAMOUNT RECORDS PRESENTS TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS - MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FROM THE PARAMOUNT PICTURES AND NICKELODEON MOVIES FILM
Features Original Score By Steve Jablonsky
(Los Angeles, CA) – Paramount Records announced today that it will release the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS – Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on June 3rd, 2016, featuring the film’s original score by Steve Jablonsky (the “Transformers” franchise, “Pain and Gain”). The Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies film is being released in theatres nationwide on June 3rd, 2016.
“The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has some of the most unique and fun characters ever created, which makes it a great canvas for music. I enjoyed the challenge of creating new musical themes for these characters,” said Jablonsky. “One of my main goals was to have fun with the music, because that's what the Turtles are all about; they could be fighting the craziest battle ever and still be cracking jokes. But the film also has a heart and a message, about being true to who you are. Out of the Shadows is a great combination of fun, action and heart.”
Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo return to theaters this summer in “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS” to battle bigger, badder villains alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After super villain Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar “Sheamus”), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.
From Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. Produced by Michael Bay, p.g.a., Andrew Form, p.g.a., Brad Fuller, p.g.a., Galen Walker and Scott Mednick. Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec. Directed by Dave Green. With videogames becoming more innovative and sophisticated, so have their scores. Jablonsky’s music can be heard in such top-selling games as “Gears of War: Judgment,” “Gears of War 2 & 3,” “Transformers: War for Cybertron,” “Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands,” “Transformers: The Game,” “The Sims 3” and “Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath.”

Starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Laura Linney, Stephen Amell, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Brian Tee and Tyler Perry.

"Nanjing" The Burning City" Honored by National Cartoonists Society
National Cartoonists Society Names Ethan Young’s "Nanjing: The Burning City" Best Graphic Novel
MILWAUKIE, OR— This past weekend, the National Cartoonists Society awarded the Reuben for Best Graphic Novel to Ethan Young for Nanjing: The Burning City, a brutal portrayal of a dark part of World War II history.
“To receive the Silver Reuben has been such a proud moment for me. I was up against amazing competition, all published by Dark Horse Comics, so to have Nanjing: The Burning City selected truly humbles me. I hope my future work can continue to live up to the same standards,” remarked Young.
Dark Horse Comics swept the Best Graphic Novel category with three stellar nominations, which, in addition to Nanjing, included Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá’s Two Brothers and Jonathan Case’s The New Deal. All three titles are part of the Dark Horse Originals imprint, marketed under the banner “Great Creators, Original Visions.”
On the nominations, The Beat stated, “Dark Horse has been putting out excellent original graphic novels in recent years, with bold subjects and top notch art.”
More about Nanjing: The Burning City: After the bombs fell, the Imperial Japanese Army seized the Chinese capital of Nanjing. Now screams echo off the rubble as two abandoned Chinese soldiers—trapped and desperately outnumbered inside the walled city—try to escape. What they’ll encounter will haunt them. But in the face of horror, they’ll learn that resistance and bravery cannot be destroyed.
Ethan Young’s next graphic novel, The Battles of Bridget Lee: Invasion of Farfall, debuts in September. Young also won a 2007 Independent Publisher Book Awards Gold Medal for the graphic novel Tails.
The National Cartoonists Society is the world’s largest and most prestigious organization of professional cartoonists. Today, the NCS membership roster includes over 500 of the world’s major cartoonists, working in many branches of the profession, including newspaper comic strips and panels, comic books, editorial cartoons, animation, gag cartoons, greeting cards, advertising, magazine and book illustration, and more.
Congratulations to all winners and nominees!
