Image Comics Announces "Hadrian's Wall" Miniseries
HADRIAN’S WALL—AN INTERGALACTIC NOIR WITH MURDER, DRUGS, DIVORCE, AND CONSPIRACY ON A SPACECRAFT
An all-new miniseries from the acclaimed C.O.W.L. creative team
The man who shot Simon Moore four times and married his ex-wife has been found dead aboard the spacecraft Hadrian’s Wall. But Simon isn’t a suspect, he’s the private investigator hired to explain the death, and it’s his ex-wife who emerges as one of the suspects. This fall, writers and co-creators Kyle Higgins (C.O.W.L., Nightwing) and Alec Siegel (C.O.W.L., Avengers), reunite with artist Rod Reis (C.O.W.L., Justice League) for HADRIAN’S WALL, an intergalactic noir with drugs and divorce, crime and conspiracy, and a last chance for redemption in the far reaches of space.
“Hadrian's Wall is a locked-door murder mystery in outer space,” said Higgins. “This series brings together our favorite parts of noir—cold blooded murder, the P.I. with a checkered past, and political corruption—with an epic, widescreen, science fiction story.”
“Rod Reis’ stellar art and designs recalls the aesthetic of Blade Runner and Alien, while creating a world that is personal and unique,” said Siegel. “His storytelling has gone to a whole new level.”
"This book started with our love for 1970's and 80's Sci-Fi, and quickly grew into something much more. From a murdered crew member, to a failed marriage, to a colony that just wants independence, this is a story about broken relationships—what tears people apart, and what it takes to bring them back together," said Higgins.
First announced at Image Expo, HADRIAN’S WALL is a six issue miniseries from the creative team behind the critically-acclaimed series C.O.W.L. in which the secrets of everyone involved are as dark as the space that surrounds them and one man’s investigation could make the interstellar Cold War go red hot.
HADRIAN’S WALL #1 (Diamond Code JUL160693) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, September 14th, 2016. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, August 22nd, 2016.

I Reads You Review: American Monster #2
AMERICAN MONSTER No. 2
AFTERSHOCK COMICS – @AfterShockComix
[This review was originally posted on Patreon.]
WRITER: Brian Azzarello
ARTIST: Juan Doe
COLORS: Juan Doe
LETTERS: Juan Doe
COVER: Juan Doe
VARIANT COVERS: Steve Epting
32pp, Color, $3.99 U.S. (February 2016)
For mature readers
American Monster created by Brian Azzarello
Chapter 1: “Roadkill”
With the publication of American Monster, AfterShock Comics has made Vertigo irrelevant in terms of American crime comics. What is American Monster, you ask, dear reader?
American Monster is a new ongoing comic book series created and written by Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets) and drawn by artist Juan Doe (Joker's Asylum: Scarecrow). The series is set in a small Midwestern town beset by corrupt cops and violent rural gangs and focuses on the mysterious stranger who arrives in town with mysterious intentions.
American Monster #2 (“Roadkill”) returns to the gang of wayward teens who experienced some “crazy shit” in the first issue. Meanwhile, Deputy Downs pays a visit to Theodore Montclare, the mysterious stranger, trying to glean some information – any information – from the him. Soon, Sheriff Josh and roadkill butcher, Felix, will have different experiences with the stranger.
I first encountered Brian Azzarello when I read the first two trade collections of his seminal crime comic book series, 100 Bullets (DC Comics/Vertigo), which he produced with artist, Eduardo Risso. I believe that the Vertigo that published 100 Bullets no longer exists in any meaningful way. I doubt that Vertigo would now publish Azzarello's rattlesnake of a comic book, American Monster. Since AfterShock does not have to worry about offending evangelicals who might stop buying Swamp Thing breakfast cereal and “daisy dukes” sporting the Batgirl emblem, this new publisher can focus on releasing imaginative comics books for mature readers, like American Monster.
Anyway, I met Azzarello years ago at a Mid-Ohio Con and was surprised to find that he was a small-of-stature, unassuming white man. He writes 100 Bullets, I thought? Now, American Monster assures me that Azzarello swings a long, thick, uncut imagination. Each page of American Monster makes me feel that I need a safe place, yet the last page of this second issue is quiet, poignant, and beautifully human.
If Azzarello is eventually imprisoned for American Monster (along with the AfterShock Comics staff), Juan Doe will be right behind him. Doe's quiet compositions belie a ruthless graphical storytelling style that has no time for being stylish. I am sure that Doe does not give a damn that the back tattoo featured in this issue turned my blood cold.

Image Comics and Top Cow Announce "Eclipse"
THE SUNLIGHT HOLDS MORE TERROR THAN THE DARKNESS IN ECLIPSE
The lethal new sci-fi thriller series from Top Cow
“Live in the night or die by the light.”
Image Comics and Top Cow Productions, Inc. are proud to announce ECLIPSE, a new sci-fi thriller series launching this September from up-and-coming writer Zack Kaplan and artist Giovanni P. Timpano (The Shadow, Lone Ranger/Green Hornet).
Not long from now, Earth will be a very different place. The sun won’t be a source of life and warmth—instead, it will be the deadliest killer the world has ever known. Following an electro-magnetic solar flare cataclysm that alters our sun forever, most of the world’s population will be dead. Exposure to the sun’s immolating rays threatens to instantly kill the rest. The only choice for humanity’s survival is to adapt, living in nocturnal societies.
“We’ve all thought about droughts or food shortages, but consider what would happen if we lost a precious environmental companion like the sun,” said Kaplan. “ECLIPSE explores that catastrophic possibility, and whether we as people can survive with hope or succumb to our darker nature.”
In ECLIPSE’s recovered New York City, solar engineer David “Bax” Baxter ekes out a disillusioned existence. But the world gets even darker when the daughter of a solar industrialist is targeted by a mysterious killer, one who burns his victims in the sunlight while he walks away unscathed. When Bax agrees to protect this girl, he’s forced to confront a past he’s spent years trying to hide from.
"ECLIPSE reminds us of the fragility of our world, our society and our morality,” said Top Cow Story Editor and POSTAL writer Bryan Hill. “It's not just a story about fearing the harsh light of the sun. It's also a story about fearing the darkness inside the human heart."
“Giovanni and I are both perfectionists,” said Kaplan. “Not only did we try to design a rich world that felt authentic and functional, but every choice we made supported the character’s emotional story. Giovanni’s storytelling and design sense have been staggering, and I’m thrilled to have him as a partner on the book.”
ECLIPSE #1 (Diamond Code JULY160677) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, September 7th, 2016. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, August 15th, 2016.

The show saw her star in the role of the feisty Agent Peggy Carter, the first series picking up a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, and followed Peggy Carter's blossoming career as a secret agent. She also starred as Peggy in the Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter (the predecessor to the series), in flashbacks in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant Man.
Atwell will be seen later this year leading a stellar cast in ABC's new drama series Conviction as a brilliant young attorney who happens to be the daughter of a former US President, blackmailed to head up LA's new Conviction Integrity Unit. Created by Liz Friedlander, the series will also feature Emily Kinney, Fode Bangoura and Merrin Dungey alongside Atwell as its star.
Hayley was most recently seen in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Cinderella, in which she starred alongside Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, and Lily James. The film, which released in March 2015, was a live-action retelling of the classic fairy tale. She was seen as the lead female role in the John Ridley-directed Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side, alongside Imogen Poots and Andre 3000.
Hayley's work in film is extensive. Hayley's Bess Foster was the object of Ralph Fiennes' Duke of Devonshire's affections in 2008's The Duchess. The same year, audiences saw Hayley in Brideshead Revisited alongside Emma Thompson, Matthew Goode, and Ben Whishaw. She also collaborated with Whishaw in Love/Hate, a short film which was awarded runner up in the 2009 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. Her other film credits include the noir thriller feature I, Anna, and Nick Love's film adaptation of the popular 70s TV series The Sweeney, in which Hayley played the female lead alongside Ray Winstone and Damian Lewis.
On television, Hayley won critical acclaim for her performance in the BBC's The Line of Beauty, an adaptation of Alan Hollinghurst's Booker Prize-winning novel. She appeared in the ITV remake of the 1960s cult classic The Prisoner, where she played Lucy alongside Ian McKellen and Ruth Wilson. Hayley received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress category for her outstanding performance in the Channel 4's Pillars of the Earth based on Ken Follett's novel. Her other television credits include Any Human Heart, Mansfield Park, Ruby in the Smoke, and Fear of Fanny, Restless, Play House presents: The Man, and Life of Crime.
Hayley is also well-known as an accomplished stage actress. In September 2011, Hayley completed a run of The Faith Machine at the Royal Court Theatre. For the National Theatre, she played in Major Barbara and in Man of Mode. Hayley's outstanding performance in the role of Catherine in A View from the Bridge earned her rave reviews and a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2009 Olivier Awards. Hayley has most recently been seen starring in Alexi Kaye Campbell's Olivier Award-winning play The Pride.
"Fans will be knocking down our front doors now," said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. "Everyone knows and loves Hayley. She is a huge star in our circles and out, she's a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and have you seen her lip-sync battles?? Step back!"
